“Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)

He died for my sake, on my behalf
All the punishment due to me, He bore in my place
From the height of His glory to be a man
He yielded His divinity up for me
To become a man of sorrows,
To bleed, to suffer and to die
He endured a death of shame, deserted from His Father
This was his love for me

Such love is above all human understanding
It is vast, boundless and unmeasurable
I did not earn it, but it was given freely
Sin caused me to turn my back on His love
I have loved his creations more than the Creator
I have loved others and myself more than my Savior
But God is love and by His grace, transformed my heart
To love Him and Him alone

His love has filled my heart with gratitude
I rejoice in His gift of rescuing love
